Menu Operations
How Menu Operations Work (Sell States, Rollouts)
Menu operations control how and when your menu items are available to customers. Every menu item has a "sell state" that determines its visibility:
- Available: Customers can see and order this item
- Sold Out: Customers can't order this item (temporarily out of stock)
- Hidden: Customers don't see this item at all
Rollouts let you test new menu items with a few customers first, or gradually roll them out to all customers over time.
What Menu Status Options Mean
Available
- Your menu item is ready to sell
- Customers can order and purchase it
- A good choice for popular, well-stocked items
Sold Out
- Your menu item isn't available right now
- Customers won't be able to order it
- Perfect for when you run out of a popular item
Hidden
- Your menu item is completely hidden from customers
- They won't even see it on the menu
- Use for items you're not ready to offer or want to test privately
When to Use Different Menu Settings
Use Available when:
- You have enough stock
- Customers regularly order this item
- You want to promote it to all customers
Use Sold Out when:
- You need to restock an item
- A supplier delay means you won't have it soon
- Seasonal ingredients are running out
Use Hidden when:
- You're testing a new recipe
- You want to collect feedback without orders
- The item needs preparation changes
How to Manage Your Menu Based on Business Needs
- Daily checks: Look at your menu each day and update items that aren't selling well
- Seasonal adjustments: Hide items when ingredients aren't available, show them when they are
- Special events: Show different menus for holidays or promotions
- Staff needs: Hide staff-only discounts or internal-only items
